An Audit of Vancomycin in the MMUH
Scanlon N, Hanevy A, Meegan C.
Pharmacy Department, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin 7.
Vancomycin is a reserve antimicrobial at the Mater Misericordiae
University Hospital (MMUH), indicated for the specific treatment of
Gram-positive infections resistant or intolerant of standard beta-lactam
therapy. Vancomycin therapy requires monitoring of blood levels to
minimise the risks of nephrotoxicity and ensure its efficacy. This
poster summarises an audit of vancomycin undertaken at the hospital to
ascertain the appropriateness of vancomycin TDM in the MMUH with a view
to establishing dosing and monitoring guidelines to improve current
practice.
