A joint initiative by the ICCPE, PSI and the HSE

A second most successful seminar was held in the Dublin Citywest Hotel on Thursday, 18th January 2012.

This seminar had as its primary purpose the consideration of provision of safe and appropriate patient care and pharmacy services for residents in nursing homes and in other residential care settings for older people.

This seminar was attended by over 100 pharmacists from all parts of the country.

On this website you will find most of the presentations that were made at this seminar. It is hoped that by their publication on this website, pharmacists and the retail pharmacy businesses for which they are responsible, will gain a better insight into the essential needs of the residents in these homes and challenges that are presented and thus contribute to their better care and safety.

It has been pointed out on a number of occasions that “where medicinal products and pharmacists are concerned, the patients in any of these homes are entitled to the exact same quality of care and service as if they were in their own homes and attending their own pharmacy.”.

Let us all as pharmacists, therefore, continue to strive to ensure that this objective is achieved for all of the residents in these homes.
